How to Disable DHCP on a Linksys Router

Linksys router problem.
All the wireless routers including Linksys use DHCP (dynamic host configuration protocol) to obtain the IP (internet protocol) address for a connected device like computer or router etc. DHCP facilitates a user by minimizing the efforts involved in manual network configuration that requires device(s) to be plugged into the network and then removed.
You may want to disable the DHCP function in your Linksys router due to unwanted network issues, troublesome VOIP network, or the need of connecting another router among other reasons. Below is the comprehensive guide that will help you disable the DHCP function in your Linksys router without the help of Linksys router support.
Instructions: If it is a wireless connection that you are using on your computer, then make it a wired connection by connecting an Ethernet cable with one end running into the computer and the other in the router.
Open up your internet browser, enter ‘http://192.168.1.1' (without quotes and as is) in the address bar of the browser, and hit Enter on the keyboard to reach the login page.
When the router login page comes up, enter your user name and password in the respective fields and click on the OK or Login button (whatever you see there) to proceed to the router settings. It is to must to enter the correct credentials like username and password. Failing of which will not let you login and access the router configuration settings. Usually the default username is blank in Linksys routers and the password is ‘admin'. However, it is strongly recommended that you check your documents (manual) that came with the router before entering anything.

Click on the Apply button to save the changes and exit all the windows to let the changes take place.

How to Configure Windows Server as a Ntp Server

The Microsoft Windows operating systems from Windows 2000 onwards has a built-in time synchronization service – ‘Windows Time’. This article describes how to configure the Microsoft Windows 2003 and Windows 2000 time service as a NTP time server. It shows how to modify registry entries to configure the Microsoft Windows Time Service. The Windows Time service allows a Windows network to provide synchronisation of all machines within a domain.

Windows 2003 Server Configuration

Windows 2003 has expanded on the original Windows 2000 time service by providing a true NTP implementation. The time service, installed by default, can synchronise to a NTP Server. Indeed, by manipulating registry settings for the service it can act as both an NTP server and client to synchronise other network clients in the domain.

The 'Windows Time' service should be present in the systems service list. The application executable is 'w32time.exe'. The parameter list for w32time can be found in the registry at:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\W32Time

Before modifying registry entries it is good a dood idea to backup the registry settings. The registry can then be restored in the event of problems being encountered.
To configure a Windows 2003 machine to synchronise to an external NTP server, edit the following registry entries:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\W32Time\Config\AnnounceFlags
Set the ‘Announce Flags’ registry entry to 5, to indicate a reliable time source.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\W32Time\TimeProviders\NTPClient\SpecialPollInterval
The ‘Special Poll Interval’ registry entry defines the period in seconds that the Windows 2003 machine should poll the NTP server. A recommended value is 900 seconds, which equates to every 15 minutes.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\W32Time\Parameters\NtpServer
The ‘NTP Server’ parameter is used to provide a list of IP addresses or DNS names, separated by a space, of NTP servers that the Windows 2003 machine can synchronise to.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\W32Time\TimeProviders\NTPServer\Enabled
Changing the ‘Enabled’ flag to the value 1 enables the NTP Server.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\W32Time\Parameters\Type
Change the server type to NTP by specifying ‘NTP’ in the ‘Type’ registry entry.

Windows 2000 Time Service Configuration

Windows 2000 has an integrated time synchronisation service, installed by default, which can synchronise to a NTP Server. Indeed, by manipulating registry settings, the service can act as both an SNTP client and SNTP server to synchronise other network clients.

Windows 2000 can operate as an NTP client and synchronise to an NTP server by setting parameter 'NTP Server' to the IP address of a NTP Server.

By default, the Microsoft Windows 2000 machine will synchronise to the specified NTP time server every 8 hours (or 3 times a day), which may not be enough to maintain accurate synchronisation. The period can be reduced by setting the 'Period' parameter to how many times a day synchronisation is required. Setting the period to 48 will activate synchronisation with the NTP server once every half hour.
Windows 2000 can also be configured to act as an NTP server by setting the 'Local NTP' parameter to '1'.

After editing any of the registry entries for the windows time service, the service must be restarted for the settings to take effect. The services can be started or stopped from the service control applet in 'administrative tools'. Alternatively the service can be controlled via the DOS net command thus:

net start w32time
net stop w32time

NTP Troubleshooting

A number of problems can be encountered when configuring the Windows Time Service. NTP operates using the UDP protocol over TCP/IP. Therefore the TCP/IP network infrastructure must be operational for NTP to be effective. Synchronisation issues may arise when NTP attempts to synchronise to an inaccurate time reference or if network delays are excessive.

Synchronising Time on Network Devices

As well as synchronising Microsoft Windows servers and workstations, NTP can also be used to synchronise network devices, such as hubs, switches and routers. Any network device that can synchronise to a NTP server can be pointed to the Windows server to achieve time synchronisation. In this way the whole network and accompanying infrastructure can be synchronised.

How to Make a Bootable Antivirus Cd

Purpose of this document.
This document will teach you how to make a bootable anti-malware ( bootable antivirus ) cd/dvd step-by-step.

Why Bootable Antivirus?
In a bootable environment we are running a stripped down version of windows in a ram disk (programs are loaded directly into ram), thus the hard drive on the PC is treated as attached storage (like a flash drive). In this state malware (malware consists of viruses, trojans, spyware, adware, rootkits, etc) is helpless and totally at your mercy. This is the best free way to remove any piece of malware with a 100% success rate.

Steps:
Please follow all the steps below:

1. Go to http://ubcd4win.com/downloads.htm
2. Select a mirror with a green status. (like "Mirror#3" for example)
3. When you click on the mirror it will take you to another site where the download will be available.
4. Click the download link for Ultimate Boot CD and save the download to wherever you download stuff.
5. Once the installer has been downloaded double click it.
6. Choose your language
7. Click next about 3 more times and select the file path where you would like to install ultimate boot cd 4 win. Please note that you should have a drive with at least 5-10 gb of free space to allow for future plugin growth. I will choose C:UBCD4Win. The install should take a few minutes.
8. Click Yes to the MD5 Hash Check. The install will continue once the hash check succeeds.
9. Click Yes to see if a patch file exists.
10. Click the checkbox to launch ubcd4winbuilder.exe.
11. Click the "i agree" button.
12. Click "NO" to searching for windows files.
13. Obtain a windows xp operating system disc w/SP2.
14. Explore the disc and copy the entire content (all the folders and files on the windows xp cd) to any location on your computer. You should allocate at least 700 MB of free space for the windows xp disc.
15. Open UBCD4win (if it's not already open). Click Source browse button (3 dots ...) and browse to your i386 folder. My path was C:WindowsXPcd for example.
16. Next go to the media output section and choose a spot for your ISO image to be created. This ISO can be burned with almost any burning software. Once the ISO is burned it will be bootable.
17. Next, click the plugins button. Don't be too overwhelmed here, actually you should be very happy! Look at all those plugins!
18. Now it's time to update our anti-malware software packages.
19. The first one I have on my list is a-squared free anti-spyware. Click that line and then click the config button. A command prompt will automatically open and start downloading the latest updates for that program...totally awesome, isn't it!
20. So, now you need to update all the anti-malware programs in our plugin list. Click each one and then hit the config button.
21. After you're done configing/updating your plugins click the close button.
22. Next, click Build.
23. Click yes to create a directory and then click i agree.
24. At this point your ISO is created and is ready to be burned.
